Mohali a village risen to the status of district
Named SAS Nagar 18the district of Punjab on April 14,2006. The major factor
responsible for the growth of industry in this town is availability of good
infrastructure at one place. The proximity of Mohali to Chandigarh and overall
best living conditions has added impetus to its growth. The Industrial growth of
Mohali can be traced back to the year 1970-71 when 1198 acres of land was
initially acquired by the State Government for setting up an Industrial estate
here. At present there are nine Industrial Phases of this Industrial Focal
Points in SAS Nagar, where developed plots of various sizes were allocated for
setting up of Industries. Keeping in view the heavy demand for plots, another
area of 70 acres has been developed and industrial Phase VIII-B has come up very
fast where mega projects and IT projects have come up.
Industrial scenario of
the district is moving on rapid speed. About 90 large medium units are working
with the tune of investment of Rs. 20000 crores and providing employment to
25000 persons. "Like wise 2000 Small Scale units are working with the investment
of Rs. 7000 Crores and providing employment to about 30000 persons.
The
products produced by these industries like Tractor Parts, Auto parts and
Electronics items. Engg. Goods wooden furniture, surgical equipments, Ghee,
Bakery items Pesticides insecticides medicines as per the national and
international standards. The Prestigious companies like DELL, QUARK, WIPRO and
TATA INDICOM etc. are attracting new IT and Software development industries.
Moreover Software Technology Park is also established here. 85 New Mega Projects
approved by the State Govt. not only attracting investment but also creating
opportunities of employment to the unemployed youths.
SAS Nagar has come to
be known as Silicon Valley because of concentration of units manufacturing
electronic goods. There are 13 large and medium and 55 small scale electronic
units producing TV sets, transformers, electronic socks, mini computers, Video
cassettes, TV Antenna, Battery charges, Electronic telecommunication equipment,
dish antennas, Computers etc. The Govt. of India has established its prestigious
Semiconductor Complex here. Besides this an Electronic Development and Testing
Center (Now Called C-DAC) and Centre of Electronic Design and Training Institute
have been boosting the growth of electronic industry and to meet its Research
and Development requirements. The CEDTI is conducting specialized training
courses for technical and science graduates enabling them to find employment in
industries or to start their own ventures.
NIIFT and institution of the Govt.
of Punjab is providing diploma & degree courses for fashion design and
technology to the students as per the modern trend required in government
industries, Establishment of the Fashion Technology park are attraction the new
entrepreneurs to establish their venture and employment to the artisans
presenting the Punjab Culture throughout the world.
